University of Minnesota expert consensus report maps where generative AI helps or hurts learning
A preregistered Delphi study of 30 learning scientists rated 65 learning processes. They agreed genAI can help with feedback, self-testing and tutoring once basics are learned, but can disrupt memory formation, critical thinking, writing and self-regulation, with young children most at risk. The report offers 11 recommendations and admits the evidence is thin.
Why it matters
Gives edtech builders and schools a structured map for when to put AI in front of learners, for example only after students have the basic skills.
