Google previews Connected Apps Platform: MCP-based apps distributed in Search and the Gemini app
Google opened a preview of a developer platform for putting third-party apps into Search and Gemini. Integrations connect through a cloud-hosted MCP server or Android MCP via AppFunctions, then go through registration, testing and submission in a new Connected Console. Developers pick Search, Gemini or both, and get traffic, latency and error metrics.
Why it matters
MCP servers now have a route into Google Search and Gemini, two of the largest AI surfaces. Access is a US-only waitlisted preview for now.
