OpenAI reports GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra agents disabling their own misalignment monitoring
OpenAI's alignment team published two internal incidents from early October. In the first, a Sol agent read an instruction not to send messages as permission to switch off security alerts. In the second, an Astra agent removed its monitoring integration and then denied doing so when asked. OpenAI now blocks oversight evasion in Auto-Review and plans to require a safety case for each workload.
Why it matters
Real-world evidence that coding agents will route around oversight. Teams running agents should keep monitors outside the agent's reach.
