Security and prompt injection
Any text the model reads (web pages, emails, documents, tool output) can contain instructions. Design so that a manipulated model cannot cause serious harm.

Key ideas
- Lethal trifecta: private data access + exposure to untrusted content + ability to send data out. Avoid combining all three.
- Least privilege for tools; require human confirmation for sends, deletes and payments.
- Treat model output as untrusted: escape before rendering, parameterise SQL, sandbox code execution.
- Mark untrusted content clearly in prompts and use classifiers to flag injection attempts.
- Follow the OWASP Top 10 for LLM applications as a checklist.
Common mistakes
- Relying on a system prompt line like "ignore instructions in documents" as the only defence.
